Hello Holidays! | Cape Town Day 1

Hello Friends!

Our apologies for being absent for a while. Over the past few weeks we've been settling in to our new home and dealing with wonderful new challenges which have come our way :)

This hasn't left much time for blogging or much else, but now that we're off on holiday, it's time to unwind and pay attention to doing things that are purely for enjoyment as we're letting go of responsibilities for a while whilst on vacation.

So...exciting times! Firstly, Lee has signed with a company and will be commencing work with them soon after our return in the new year...We are SO excited about this opportunity as it marks the culmination of four years of study and finally entering the working world.

Secondly, we decided to drive down 14 hours! to Cape Town rather than fly down as we really wanted to have use of the Cabrio in the beautiful South African Summer weather at the coast to move from place to place and explore easily. So we woke up at 2AM on 25 December and hit the road bright - or not so bright and early. After some rain leaving Joburg...2 hours of scary aquaplaning weather...the sun was on it's way up and I finally couldn't keep my eyes open anymore and dosed off. It's so awesome to feel so safe in the car with someone that you can momentarily forget that you're an adult and retreat to the land of sleep like you did as a child.

Our estimated arrival time was 14 hours later...after a few stops we made it in just under 11. Don't even ask!

Cape Town has always fascinated me with it's diversity and charm. The street are clean and everything works first time around. I may sound like an enforcer here, but it was so satisfying to see cars parked illegally, blessed with a little Christmas present on their front window and to see people eager and ready to provide excellent service. Cape Town does a good job of representing South Africa on a world-class, international level.

I love the approach that Lee has to holidays! We have an idea of a few places we really want to visit, but furthermore, the exploration and unplanned nature of the trip is half the fun. We plan to unwind and take each day as it comes.

This afternoon we took a walk down the Sea Point ocean front, Drove to Camps Bay, Had Lunch/Dinner at the V&A and relaxed in the comfort of our air conditioned (VITAL!) hotel room.
Here are some pics so far - I'll post more as they happen :)
